Are you stressed or has your acupuncturist or herbalist suggested you need to "move your Liver Qi?" to help the body manage stress better. Here are easy, daily habits that keep Liver Qi moving smoothly. Even just doing a few each day can make a difference!

1. Breathe Deep into Your Belly to Help Manage Stress

Diaphragmatic breathing (belly breathing) helps your Liver Qi flow smoothly. Breathe in through your nose, letting your belly expand, then slowly breathe out. Do this for a few minutes when feeling tense or stuck.

2. Twist Your Waist

Gently twisting your waist side to side, especially in the morning or after sitting too long, helps wake up your Liver Qi. Let your arms swing naturally as you twist.

3. Get Your Heart Rate Up

A brisk walk, jumping jacks, or light jogging for 5-10 minutes can shake up stagnant Qi and improve circulation. The Liver loves movement!

4. Stretch Your Sides

Lift one arm overhead and lean to the opposite side, stretching the ribs. This opens the Liver and Gallbladder channels, which run along the sides of your body.

5. Shake It Out

Stand up and shake your arms, legs, and whole body for a minute or two. This is an easy way to loosen up and move stuck Qi.

6. Tap Along Your Ribs

Gently tap your fingertips along your ribcage, especially under your ribs on the right side. This stimulates the Liver and helps with emotional flow.

7. Drink Warm Lemon Water

A glass of warm water with fresh lemon juice in the morning can help "wake up" your Liver and aid digestion.

8. Roll Your Eyes

Since the Liver is connected to the eyes, rolling them in circles (slowly, both directions) can actually help relax and move Liver Qi.

9. Sigh It Out

A deep sigh releases pent-up energy. If you feel frustrated or tight in your chest, take a big breath in and sigh it out loudly.

10. Massage Between Your Toes

The Liver channel starts between your big toe and second toe. Press and rub between them to help unblock energy flow.

11. Get Outside and See Green

The Liver is associated with the color green. Taking a walk in nature or even just looking at greenery can help calm and move Liver Qi.

12. Express Yourself

Holding in emotions—especially frustration and irritation—stagnates Liver Qi. Singing, journaling, or talking to a friend can help it flow.
